*Gear City* is set in a steampunk metropolis on the planet’s surface. Players take on the role of a courier, performing parkour across the city’s vertical surfaces and running along walls and ceilings (utilizing a gravity-flipping mechanic). The core mechanic is Steam Launching—the city is crisscrossed with steam pipes, and stepping on their vents grants a massive burst of upward or forward acceleration.
The game features 2,500 levels spanning nine administrative districts: the Industrial District (Levels 1–600) offers dense piping, making it easy for beginners to learn the ropes; the Commercial District (Levels 601–1200) features densely packed buildings requiring frequent gravity flips; the Noble District (Levels 1201–1800) is covered by glass domes, resulting in reduced sliding friction and increased momentum; and the Underground District (Levels 1801–2500) is dim and shrouded in steam, forcing players to rely on the sound of steam vents to navigate due to low visibility.
Upgradable gear includes the High-Pressure Valve (increasing the power and height of steam launches), Anti-Slip Treads (improving traction on smooth surfaces like glass), and the Smoke Mask (providing a 5-meter field of vision in the Underground District). Players can enhance these components by collecting Brass Gears.
